Americast is awful,
March 10, 2008 God is good (MA) - See all my reviews
Americast scratches, it goes dull and it stains! I know of 4 people who own items with Americast and we all have the same problems! You actually have to polish it! If they ever stop selling the only polishing product that works on it, that would make the life span of this product about 3 months before it looked awful! My product is only 2 years old and I can't stand it! Everyone I've spoken to who has Americast says the same thing. When I phoned the company, all they could say is what I should use to polish it. That did nothing for the scratches or the dullness.

Own 2 Americast tubs & hate them,

Got two Americast tubs installed c.1998 (one standard; one extra deep). Some of the surface coating was peeled off when a tile contractor removed some protective tape; the tubs scratch very easily; the no-slip surface on them is now dingy yellow even though the tubs are very rarely used. I would not buy Americast again.

I purchased this tub for a new addition we put on in 2006. It has been in use for 4 years now ( by triplets)and is in great shape.
We have had no staining, but did have a chip out of the finish due to a wrench falling while installing the shower head.
I have never heard creaking or any noise from it, although I have never bathed in it myself & the kids are pretty loud.... :)
It was MUCH easier to install in a DIY capability that cast iron ( which we have done as well).
I don't know if I would be sold on it for MY bathroom, but for the kids bath, it is perfect.
The definite plus over cast iron is that in the winter on an exterior wall, as both my cast iron tub is & the Americast tub is, is that the later isn't freezing cold when you get in.
I purchased this model due to the fact that the exterior has clean lines, no weird swooping line on it, which screams cheap to me. A first glance, this looks like a cast iron tub, not...Read more
